Cattaraugus County, NY Public Defender’s Office

The Cattaraugus County Public Defender's Office is located in Orlean, NY. This office provides legal representation to those who cannot afford to hire an attorney. The Public Defenders represent individuals charged with all criminal offenses, including felonies, misdemeanors, and violations (excluding vehicle and traffic violations charged independently from other criminal offenses.) They also represent people in family court proceedings, including neglect, abuse, custody, child support violations, and family offense matters. In addition, persons alleged to have violated terms of probation and/or parole are also eligible for legal representation through Cattaraugus County Public Defender's Office. They have a social worker, two investigators, clerical staff, and a team of qualified attorneys prepared to zealously represent clients. Additionally, the Cattaraugus County Public Defender's office advocates for the protection of the constitutional rights of its clients, contribute to the efficient and effective operation of the criminal justice system in Cattaraugus County, where appropriate, advocates and works toward achieving results that have the greatest likelihood to help rehabilitate clients.
