Chicago Books to Women in Prison is a nonprofit organization that distributes paperback books free of charge to incarcerated people nationwide, focusing on all women and trans/non-binary people. They offer the opportunity for self-empowerment, education and entertainment that reading provides. They send books to state prisons in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi and Ohio, as well as all federal prisons. They do not send books to jails and other short-term facilities outside Chicago. Incarcerated people send them their requests for books directly. They match each request from their stock of thousands of donated books. They send three books in each package along with a personal note and a new order form so it’s easy to order again
Federal Death Penalty Resource Counsel project (“FDPRC”) and the Resource Counsel project (“CRC” or the “Trial Projects”) help courts and federal defenders identify qualified counsel for federal death-penalty appeals and provide direct representation in some cases.
