Cole County, MO Public Defender’s Office

The Cole County Public Defender's Office is located in Jefferson City and is a trial division of Missouri State Public Defender System (MSPD). The MSPD is responsible for providing legal representation to all indigent citizens accused of or convicted of crimes at the State Trial Court, Appellate Court, Missouri Supreme Court, and United States Supreme Court. Their mission is to provide high-quality, zealous advocacy for indigent people accused of a crime in the State of Missouri. If your situation involves a state crime and you can't hire a lawyer, the Public Defender might be able to represent you. A representative of their office will review your application and possibly request additional information. Based on this information, they will decide whether you are eligible for Public Defender representation. If the application is turned down, it is because the case is not a case they can handle, or the applicant is not indigent according to the financial guidelines of the Missouri State Public Defender System. To find out more about eligibility, please contact the Cole County Public Defender's Office directly.
