College Guild

College Guild is a program which provides access to free distance-learning for incarcerated individuals to help reduce recidivism. The organization is a nonprofit with a mission to connect incarcerated individuals with a learning community outside the correctional facility. Their work is based in research that suggests education programs during incarceration help reduce recidivism by as much as 50%. College Guild is not an accredited institution, meaning that individuals are free to explore a diverse array of courses without the restriction of a specific degree plan. Courses use a correspondence model, and all instructors are volunteers with unique expertise, offering incarcerated individuals the chance to learn about many subjects while they serve out their sentences. Presently, more than 7,000 incarcerated individuals have made use of the program, and the community continues to grow.
