Colorado DOC State ID Program

Section Title

Colorado DOC State ID Program

The Colorado Department of Corrections State ID Program assists currently incarcerated individuals throughout the state. Through the program, all individuals meet with corrections staff to determine the status of all state identification, driver's licenses and commercial licenses. Those who eligible for a state id have the option of ordering one to house in storage at the prison until their release. Individuals who do not qualify for a state id or who have holds on their identification records may request assistance resolving the issues ahead of their release. The goal of the State ID Program is to help address one of the most difficult barriers to successful reentry: possession of government identification. According to their research, fewer than ten percent of individuals hold valid government identification when they return to the community. This can be an impediment to securing employment, applying for housing and even voting. For more information, contact the organization directly.
