District of Columbia Department of Human Services: Transitional Housing for Individuals

The District of Columbia Department of Human Services offers a number of programs to support individuals in and around the Washington, DC community. Transitional Housing for Individuals is a program which provides emergency and temporary assistance to individuals facing housing emergencies, as well as those returning to the community after incarceration. Housing communities are designed to be a step toward permanent, self-sufficient lifestyles. Each housing community offers programming which services specific individuals and the unique barriers they face. Additionally, the Department of Human Services offers permanent supportive housing for individuals who experience chronic homelessness. In order to be eligible, individuals must provide documentation to show that they have experienced one or more years of homelessness, have limited earning potential and require intensive case management. These individuals may be admitted to housing communities that offer more direct and continual services.
