Exchange for Change provides writing courses inside correctional facilities and manages letter exchanges between incarcerated students and writers studying outside prison. By preparing currently incarcerated individuals for their return to the outside community and preparing their communities for their return, Exchange for Change offers insight and clarity on both sides of the fence. Currently, Exchange for Change is available at the following facilities: Everglades Correctional Institution, Everglades Re-Entry Center, Homestead Correctional Institution, Miami Youth Academy, Metro West Detention Center, Avon Park Correctional Institution. Course offerings include Writing as Resilience, Introduction to Philosophy, and genre specific writing courses. Students with Exchange for Change have the opportunity to publish their work, and educators help them to submit writing to contests and literary journals that prioritize justice involved writers.
