The Gooding County Public Defender's Office provides quality legal representation to indigent individuals who the Court assigns public defender's services. Located in West Gooding, this office has a staff including one Public Defender, two Assistant Public Defenders and two Legal Secretaries. Altogether, they specialize in criminal matters, Juvenile Correction Act matters, Child Protective Act matters, and matters about involuntary commitment for the mentally ill. A public defender must be appointed by the Court to represent an indigent person. If the Court determines that they are not financially able to retain private counsel, the Court will appoint the Public Defender's Office to represent them. An individual must apply for a public defender by completing a detailed financial statement and agreeing to provide documentation concerning income, assets and debts for the person and the person's spouse if any.
