Gratiot County, MI Indigent Defense

The Public Defender's Office of Gratiot County is located in Ithaca, Michigan. With one Indigent Defense Administrator and one Indigent Defense Administrative Assistant, the prosecutor reviews complaints from police and citizens, issues warrants, and represents the State in criminal and juvenile cases. The prosecutor also acts as the attorney for some county boards and agencies. Gratiot County Indigent Defense oversees the standards and budgets set forth by the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission. In addition, indigent Defense reviews request for appointed counsel that used to be handled by the court and appoint attorneys to those cases that qualify. The Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public trial without unnecessary delay and the right to a lawyer. The privilege of offering representation to those in need is why the law has offered public defense services. If you seek an appointed attorney or have any questions, contact the Gratiot County Public Defender's office if you require further information.
