Massachusetts Committee For Public Counsel Services’s Roxbury Defenders Unit

The Roxbury Defenders Unit (RDU) is located in Roxbury, Massachusetts. It serves the Suffolk Superior Court, Roxbury, Dorchester & West Roxbury divisions of the Boston Municipal Court. RDU has one Attorney In-Charge, two Supervising Attorneys, and 15 attorneys on staff. The Public Defender’s office provides legal representation to indigent defendants in Roxbury County who cannot pay for private counsel and risk losing their liberty if convicted. The Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public trial without unnecessary delay and the right to a lawyer.
