Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project

The Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project (MAIP) is a non-profit organization that provides free investigative and legal assistance to incarcerated people who have claims of innocence. Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project work to prevent and correct the conviction of innocent people in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. They also work with the Conviction Integrity Unit at the US Attorney’s Office to reform the criminal justice system. MAIP looks for cases where they can use new evidence, often from DNA, to prove that the incarcerated person is innocent. They take cases of wrongful conviction where there is Eyewitness Misidentification, Unreliable or Improper Forensic Science, False Confessions, Informant Testimony, Government Misconduct and Inadequate Defense. They do not accept cases in which a person has not yet been convicted or sentenced and cases that are still in the appeals process. MAIP gives hope to people who feel that they are out of options. Visit their website to learn more about their work.
