NYC Cure

Section Title

NYC Cure

NYC Cure is an initiative housed at John Jay College to develop and implement violence prevention strategies and improve public safety. In its initial phase, the organization is conducting two studies to determine the most effective methods to reduce gun violence and the efficacy of the Cure Violence model. These studies will help inform policies and future endeavors designed to improve safety in the greater New York City area. Currently, NYC Cure works in collaboration with community organizations and nonprofit centers focused on nonviolence and work that supports traditionally underserved communities. Their goal is to better understand the intersection of various factors which act as precursors to gun violence, such as systemic oppression, intergenerational poverty and racial disparity in the corrections system. By documenting and evaluating data points from these organizations, NYC Cure hopes to hone in on the best route to end gun violence in New York City for future generations.
