Ottawa County, MI Public Defender’s Holland Office

The Ottawa County Public Defender's Office has a local, regional office located in Holland, MI. This office works to ensure the state's public defense system is fair, cost-effective and constitutional while simultaneously protecting public safety and accountability. The office has one Public Defender, two Assistant Public Defender III, two Assistant Public Defender II, five Assistant Public Defender I, one Legal Assistant II, one Legal Assistant I, and one Legal Clerk serving the indigent people in need. In addition, they help their clients achieve justice in an often unfeeling legal system that disproportionately traps poor people and minorities. The Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public trial without unnecessary delay and the right to a lawyer. The privilege of offering representation to those in need is why the law has offered public defense services. Thus, the Public Defender's office provides legal representation to indigent defendants in Ottawa who cannot pay for private counsel and risk losing their liberty if convicted.
