Petey Greene Program

The Petey Greene Program (PGP) is a New Jersey-based organization whose mission is to support the academic goals of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people through high-quality volunteer tutoring programs, while educating volunteers on the injustice manifest in our carceral system. They recruit, train, and coordinate undergraduate and graduate student volunteers—as well as community member volunteers—to serve as academic tutors for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. PGP offers college readiness programs for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated learners that helps them acquire the writing, critical thinking and math skills required to access postsecondary programs, while fostering the sense of educational self-efficacy and confidence vital for success. The PGP plans to offer a college readiness math and literacy program to complement the writing and critical thinking course. When possible, the PGP will adopt a blended learning model, where students progress at their own pace through self-guided, adaptive online college readiness curricula, while receiving complementary in-person tutoring support. To know more about the PGP, please contact them directly.
