FCI Edgefield is a federal correctional facility in Edgefield, South Caroline with medium and minimum security housing wings. The facility maintains a strategic partnership with Piedmont Technical College to provide incarcerated individuals at FCI Edgefield with opportunities for real-world training and job skills development. In addition, Piedmont Technical College will offer certificate programs to incarcerated individuals in the areas of manufacturing, welding and carpentry. The program will serve approximately 300 individuals per year and offer them the chance to become certified technicians in their chosen field. Both the South Carolina Manufacturing Certificate and carpentry certificate prepare incarcerated individuals for immediate employment upon reentry into the community, while the welding certificate is designed to prepare individuals for continued education toward a full welding license. The purpose of the partnership is to incentivize good behavior and encourage individuals to develop a trade that will ensure permanent employment after release, a vital element in disrupting the cycle of reincarceration.
