Poetic Justice is a nonprofit organization. They are a community within and beyond women’s prisons and jails, working alongside one another with a shared belief in the power of self-expression to change lives. Poetic Justice’s in-person writing workshops for women’s prisons and jails provide therapeutic writing prompts and community-building activities. At the end of a session, the participants graduate and receive an anthology of their writing and a graduation certificate. They also offer distance learning classes and partner a participant from a woman’s prison or jail with an outside volunteer. Through letter writing correspondence, the two writers will share writing prompts as well as personal stories. It concludes with the participants receiving anthologies of their writing and a graduation certificate mailed to them. Their art programming is offered throughout our summer months with partnerships with local artists and art museums.
