Prison Scholar Fund

Prison Scholar Fund provides higher education opportunities to currently incarcerated individuals as a way to lower the recidivism rates in the United States. This nonprofit organization was founded in 2006 as a way to offer incarcerated individuals with a second chance for a better life, avoid homeless need and the revolving door of incarceration. Alongside scholarships and education services, Prison Scholar Fund also provides employment assistance to individuals transitioning back into their communities. Prison Scholar Fund focuses their postsecondary eduction efforts on individuals within three year of release. Eligible participants are matched with a mentor to assist with selecting an academic program and understanding degree requirements. Courses are generally paper-based and can be completed without support, although hybrid-online courses are available in some prisons. Students can apply for funding by submitting an application for scholarship support. Contact Prison Scholar Fund directly for answers to any questions and more information on their programs.
