Restoration of Rights Project

The Restoration of Rights Project is an expansive online database with resources and information about each state's restoration process. The project is part of the Collateral Consequences Resource and was developed in partnership with several national organizations committed to defending the rights of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals. The Restoration of Rights Project offers an analysis of the legislation and implementation of laws around the restoration of rights for individuals with criminal convictions. This information is easily accessed through an interactive map of the United States and Puerto Rico, as well as a search bar for individuals seeking information about a specific legal jurisdiction. Legislation included in the database focuses on the loss and restoration of rights to firearm possession, legislation concerning pardons at the state or local level, the expunging of records and licensure for specific workforce sectors. Individuals with convictions for sex crimes can also research a state-by-state comparison regarding relief from registering as a sex offender.
