STRIDE Program

STRIDE stands for Skills, Transitional Support, Respect, Integrity, Direction, and Employment. The program supports formerly incarcerated parents. Housed at Quinebaug Valley Community College, STRIDE is available statewide and actively assists justice involved individuals. They target non-custodial parents both pre and post release in CT correctional facilities that they operate out of, intervening with these individuals to decrease recidivism and work toward family reunification. Participants receive employment services, including job readiness training, assistance locating potential job opportunities, job placement and retention support. All participants also receive one-on-one mentorship and group counseling, including case management services before and after incarceration. Staff with STRIDE believe in the importance of sustainable, long term employment when working to reintegrate after incarceration. In order to qualify for services, individuals must be currently incarcerated at a participating institution, commit to becoming employed in Connecticut, and attend regularly scheduled appointments with STRIDE staff.
