Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC) is a multifaceted organization that focuses on individual services and policy initiative to promote equity in the justice system. Their direct services focus on incarcerated individuals and justice-impacted people in need of proper healthcare. They offer screenings and assessments, outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment for chemical dependence, coordination for long-term care and individual case management. TASC hopes to reduce recidivism through direct support for individuals. They also offer youth and family programs that foster safe and healthy behavioral changes, as well as alternatives for incarceration for individuals with chemical dependence or mental illness treatment needs. TASC actively works with policy makers to address issues within the justice system that disproportionately punish those with chronic illness, mental illness and/or chemical dependence.
