Section Title

The Bernard Baran Justice Committee

The Bernard Baran Justice Committee is a website dedicated to sharing the injustices related to Bernard Baran and his conviction. The website compiles key information from the case, including links to case reports and media coverage, in order to highlight the various ways in which the justice system failed. Baran was convicted with little physical evidence and largely on the basis that his homosexuality made him more likely to assault young boys. Additionally, the website exposes the ways in which the prosecution suppressed evidence relevant to the case and the ongoing harassment that Baran experienced during the appeals process and the overturning of his conviction. The goal of The Bernard Baran Justice Committee is to help ensure that similar incidents do not occur, and to provide valuable information to attorneys who are working to free wrongfully convicted clients. The Baran case illustrates numerous oversights that can help guide the ways that defense attorneys mount appeals and work to keep innocent people out of the corrections system.
