The Transcending Through Education Foundation is an organization that provides resources and support for incarcerated individuals in order for them to obtain a higher education. Through a powerful narrative of self-empowerment and giving back, the Foundation seeks to reverse the "School-to-Prison Pipeline" and establish the "Prison-to-School Pipeline." To achieve this, The Transcending Through Education Foundation offers two different types of scholarships to eligible justice-impacted individuals. One is awarded to a current inmate pursuing his or her higher education, and the other is awarded to an inmate transitioning out of incarceration who will be pursuing their higher education upon release. The Transcending Through Education Foundation partners with the Rhode Island Department of Corrections and Community College of Rhode Island in order to offer college credit courses at the Maximum Security Facility in Rhode Island. While you cannot obtain a full associate's degree through these means, the courses to contribute to an associate's degree and this program is likely to be expanded in the future.
