White Pine County, NV Public Defender’s Office

The White Pine County Public Defender's Office is located in Ely, Nevada and represents indigent defendants who have committed offenses within the county and are entitled to representation under Nevada Law. White Pine County contracts with private attorneys to act as the Public Defenders appointed to all indigent defense cases unless the office cannot take the case. The Department of Indigent Defense Services assists White Pine County in implementing their plan by performing specific duties such as selecting appointed counsel when necessary and reviewing billing requests. Primary duties of the White Pine County Public Defender include meeting with the client (in or out of custody), reviewing discovery, discussing the case with the investigator (as needed), zealously advocating for the client in court for misdemeanor trial or revocation proceedings, in District Court at arraignment, at trial, sentencing, and probation violation hearings, and occasionally briefing and arguing appeals from Justice Court to District Court. The Public Defender ensures that every accused citizen receives zealous and effective representation as mandated by the United States and Nevada Constitutions, regardless of financial resources.
