Project START & Project START Plus
Description
Project START and ProjectS TART Plus are community based organizations serving formerly incarcerated individuals with medical needs. Their mission is to ensure that individuals with any health condition that requires care after incarceration receive the help they need, and their model is being implemented across the world. One of their flagship programs focuses on risk reduction and c are for individuals impacted by HIV or AIDS who are returning to the community. They also provide care for individuals living with other STIs, including hepatitis. Since 2020, Project START and Project START Plus have implemented services to assist individuals affected by COVID during incarceration, such as permanent organ damage or chronic long COVID symptoms. The organization follows a tiered process of intervention that begins with linking individuals to medical care services after incarceration. Next, they will assess any reentry needs and risk behaviors. Participants receive ongoing support and assistance accessing all the care they need to succeed in the community.
