Re-thinking Reentry

Re-thinking Reentry

Description

Re-thinking Reentry is a group of stakeholders working to reduce recidivism and improve public safety in Upper Manhattan. As part of the coalition, the Harlem Community Justice Center is a community court dedicated to bridging the gap between the court and community to achieve fairness and systematic equity in housing, community health, and access to justice. The Harlem Community Justice Center, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the Division of Parole collaborated to create the Reentry Court, which connects parolees to various social services like drug rehab, job training, and mental health care. The Harlem Reentry Court helps parolees make the transition back to their community. Additionally, Rethinking Reentry authors are professional researchers who develop and evaluate new techniques to decrease recidivism among people who have left the criminal justice system.
