The Federal Public Defender for the Southern District of West Virginia's Charleston Office is the main federal public defender's office for the Southern District of West Virginia. With one federal public defender, one first assistant federal public defender, and two panel attorneys on staff, the Charleston office represents clients in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Their clients are represented by a team of experienced trial attorneys assisted by investigators and support staff. The office is committed to using innovative strategies and technology in the courtroom to provide its clients with quality representation against criminal charges in the Federal Courts. The mission of this Federal Public Defender’s Office is to provide effective representation as guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution, to ensure the right to counsel for individuals regardless of the ability to retain counsel, and to assist others in this mission.
