Arlington Free Clinic
Arlington Free Clinic (AFC) is a medical service provider with a mission to provide free, high-quality healthcare to low-income, uninsured Arlington County adults. They treat patients for every condition from chronic diabetes to cancer, while mental health counselors help them cope with the stresses of serious illness and poverty. New wellness programs and increased focus on preventive care help their patients live healthier lives. They also provide education and outreach and mental health counseling. AFC patients have access to its wide network of medical specialties — everything from cardiology and pulmonology to oncology and surgery — provided pro bono by generous medical professionals in the community. Also integrated into their comprehensive medical care model are mental health services, physical therapy, pharmaceuticals, education (nutrition, exercise, diabetes) and oral health care. The clinical staff coordinates every aspect of the care the patients require such as language/literacy barriers; food, housing or employment insecurity; or anxiety and depression, and they do so within the context of patients’ social and cultural needs.
