George C. Cochran Innocence Project

The George C. Cochran Innocence Project is dedicated to exonerating the wrongfully convicted and committed to criminal justice reform in Mississippi. The project is committed to providing the highest quality legal representation to its clients: Mississippi state prisoners serving significant periods of incarceration who have cognizable claims of wrongful conviction. In addition, the Project seeks to identify and address systemic problems in the criminal justice system and to develop initiatives designed to raise public and political awareness of the prevalence, causes and societal costs of wrongful convictions. The Project currently accepts applications for legal representation from prisoners convicted in Mississippi who believe that they may have a claim of actual innocence. Actual innocence means that a person had no involvement with the crime they were convicted of. The Project only reviews cases in north Mississippi counties. They only accept application requests directly from prisoners and only by mail. To request an application, a prisoner should contact the Project by mailing address provided.
