Helping Hands: A Resource Guide for Families with Loved Ones in Prison

Helping Hands: A Resource Guide for Families with Loved Ones in Prison

Description

Helping Hands is a diverse and neatly organized directory of services and support programs for the families of incarcerated individuals. The guidebook was developed by the Judy Dworin Performance Project (JDPP) to help those who must navigate the corrections system for their loved ones. Families will first encounter information about services that are available throughout the state of Connecticut, followed by regional services separated into major metropolitan areas. The Bridging Boundaries Arts Intervention Program is operated by JDPP and serves families with children. The program utilizes the arts to foster strong relationships with incarcerated parents, as well as special events for families outside prison who feel the absence of a loved one. Regional services are separated into categories that include food, clothing, housing, job services, health and mental health treatment, recovery services, educational opportunities and organizations offering comprehensive services. The guidebook uses special icons to indicate services with Spanish-speaking staff.
