New Beginnings – Next Step

New Beginnings Next Step is a nonprofit organization committed to assisting individuals during the reentry process after incarceration. The organization uses a peer-mentorship model, pairing individuals with other justice involved individuals who understand the unique circumstances of reintegrating into the community after a criminal conviction. Transition support is facilitated by formerly incarcerated individuals and community volunteers who hope to serve as a bridge to permanent reentry into the Wilmington, Delaware community. Next Step is a subsidiary of New Beginnings, a mentorship program housed in the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution to support incarcerated individuals. The program holds weekly meetings to build camaraderie and community among justice involved individuals. Additionally, participants are eligible for limited services that include transportation assistance, clothing and basic necessities. Members may offer emergency shelter or assistance entering support programs in the community.
