Innocent in Prison Project International

Description

Innocent in Prison Project International is an online resource bank and database of information about wrongful convictions. The organization defines "innocent" as someone who is free of guilt for a crime or offense. For the purposes of the database, volunteers only feature information related to individuals are are innocent. They do not cover case materials for those described as "not guilty" or who claim self-defense. Rather, their focus is illustrating the frequency of incarcerating innocent individuals, those who did not partake in the crimes for which they are convicted. Innocent in Prison Project International compiles information from cases of proven wrongful conviction, as well as cases that contain strong evidence to suggest the convicted individual is innocent. They share this information via public documents, media files, maps and polls. Unlike many organizations focused on innocence and incarceration, the organization compiles cases from across the world in an effort to shed light on what causes wrongful conviction in various justice systems.
