Pine Tree Legal Assistance

Pine Tree Legal Assistance is a legal services organization committed to equitable access to justice for all individuals. Staff and volunteers believe that there should be fairness, justice and equity for all individuals, and that ensuring better access to justice will help eliminate poverty in Maine. The mission of the organization is to make sure that state and federal legislation affecting low income people is upheld while also addressing the underlying barriers to justice experienced by Mainers with financial insecurity. To achieve their mission, Pine Tree Legal Assistance offers free legal assistance in civil matters where it can impact one’s ability to meet basic human needs or in protecting one’s basic human rights, such as stable access to housing, food, employment, safety, education and healthcare. Pine Tree Legal Assistance is dedicated to reforming the justice system so that it is more accessible for all individuals regardless of income status. They do this through a combination of direct advocacy, legal representation and knowledge sharing.
