Art from the Inside (AFTI) is a community-based organization in Minnesota that gives incarcerated artists the opportunity to express themselves through art—giving them a visual voice and empowering them on a path towards healing. Featuring art from incarcerated artists from Minnesota Correctional Facility, AFTI is administered by Midway Contemporary Art. AFTI exhibits its art in the community with the hope to inspire community dialogue about the complexities of our criminal justice system. They organize exhibits at community centers, museums, street galleries and open houses. Art From The Inside aims to serve as a bridge to connect each of us to our shared humanity so that we may rise together out of the ashes of our shared pain. ATFI also features every artist on their website to showcase their work to everyone visiting the website. This initiative gives the incarcerated empowerment, motivation and to live up to their dreams while incarcerated and helps their reentry into society.
