Douglas County, GA Public Defender’s Office

The Douglas County Public Defender's Office is located in Douglasville, GA. With attorneys on staff who solely practice criminal law, the Public Defender's Office handles all criminal cases. The United States Constitution and the State of Georgia Constitution guarantee all people accused of a criminal offense the right to an attorney, regardless of their financial status. The Douglas County Public Defender's Office represents individuals who are being prosecuted in the State and Superior Courts of Douglas County. To apply for a Public Defender, you must complete a financial affidavit at the Public Defender's Office. To qualify, you must meet the Federal Poverty Guidelines. The Juvenile Public Defender in the Douglas County office represents children who have been charged with Delinquent and Child in Need of Services (CHINS) offenses. In addition, the Juvenile Defenders represent children in Dependency cases in the capacity of Attorney for the Child and Guardian ad Litem. In most cases, an attorney is automatically appointed by the Court. If an attorney has not been appointed, an Application for a Court Appointed Attorney can be obtained from and submitted to the Clerk of Juvenile Court.
