18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office Conviction Integrity Unit

Section Title

18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office Conviction Integrity Unit

The Conviction Integrity Unit is a section of the 18th Judicial District Attorney's office that considers formal claims of innocence. The aim of the Conviction Integrity Unit is to partner with the 18th Judicial District Attorney's office specifically as an investigatory team. They first consider the validity of claims of injustice by performing a full investigation for all claims wherein individuals provide legal evidence to support their claims of innocence, substantiate claims that they were wrongfully convicted or otherwise prove assertions of injustice while interacting with the 18th Judicial justice system. Staff in the office identify the credibility of official claims and determine if plea bargaining has directly affected the outcome of the case. Those claims of innocence that are confirmed through investigation may end with a recommendation that the District Attorney revisit the case to decide whether or not evidence of injustice merits further action. For more information, contact the Conviction Integrity Unit directly using the information provided on the website.
