21st Judicial District, LA Public Defender’s Tangipahoa Office

The 21st Judicial District Public Defender's Office has a branch office located in Amite, LA. With District Defenders, attorneys and other support staff working on a full-time basis, the 21st Judicial District Amite Office serve clients in Tangipahoa Parish. This office provides legal representation to people charged with a misdemeanor, felony, capital appellate and post-conviction matters. Their mission is to advocate for clients, support practitioners and protects the public by continually improving the services guaranteed by the constitutional right to counsel. In addition, this office aims to prevent wrongful convictions, protect due process and constitutional rights, increase public safety, promote fiscal responsibility, and support economic growth throughout Louisiana. The Lousiana Public Defender Board (LPDB) oversees the work of the 21st Judicial District Office of the Public Defender. Moreover, the LPDB contracts with eight 501(c)3 non-profit organizations which provide appellate representation, capital representation at the trial level when a conflict exists in the district, capital post-conviction representation and representation of claims of innocence for persons serving life sentences in Louisiana.
