Ada County, ID Public Defender’s Office

The Ada County Public Defender’s Office is located in Boise, ID. Led by the Chief Public Defender, this office has an Adult Criminal (felony and misdemeanor) Division and Juvenile and Mental Commitment Division. It employs 64 attorneys, 19 support staff members, eight investigators and one social worker. This office represents indigent criminal defendants who cannot afford the services of private counsel. The Office of the Ada County Public Defender can be appointed to represent indigent persons in Felony, Probation Violation, Contempt, Misdemeanor, Probation Violation and Contempt Cases. In addition, excluding felony cases and post-conviction matters within the district court, the Public Defender can be appointed to represent indigent persons wishing to appeal their case. Furthermore, if the crime for which a person has been charged carries a possible jail or prison sentence, the Public Defender can be appointed by the court to represent them. The mission of the Ada County Public Defender’s Office is to protect and defend the rights of their clients through zealous and compassionate advocacy in their continuing and relentless pursuit of justice.
