AFOI (Assisting Families of Inmates) is a  non-profit organization based in Richmond, VA dedicated to providing opportunities for regular and meaningful visitation, referrals to community resources, and vital services that help families cope with incarceration and prepare for release and reunification. Its mission is to provide opportunities for regular, meaningful visitation, referrals to community resources, and other services that help families cope with incarceration and prepare for release and reunification. They strive to prevent the breakdown of relationships among incarcerated people and their families by providing regular, meaningful visitation, support, referrals and education services. Their programs help families and loved ones throughout the period of incarceration and also prepare families for a successful transition when the incarcerated person is released from prison back into our community. They provide transportation visits and video visits for individuals to Virginia’s adult and juvenile correctional facilities. Their Health Encouragement and Assistance in Reentry for Thriving Youth (HEARTY) program provide healthcare access and reduce risk factors for youth recently released back into our community. Their MAC (Milk and Cookies) Program serves children with incarcerated parents.
