Once assistance becomes available, individuals on the waiting list are invited to a briefing session that provides them detailed information about the housing program and issued a voucher. This rental assistance is available to individuals on parole or probation for up to 24 months. Once an approved rental is found, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation splits the rent into the subsidy portion and the individual renters portion, which is paid directly to the landlord.
