Section Title

Alaska Public Defender Agency’s Bethel Office

The Alaska Public Defender Agency's Bethel Office is a branch office for the state of Alaska. With one public defender on staff, four deputy public defenders, one supervising attorney, and five panel attorneys on staff, the Bethel office seeks to provide constitutionally mandated legal representation to indigent clients appointed by the court. The Public Defender Agency provides parent advocacy, juvenile defense and mental health advocacy for clients. The court appoints the Public Defender Agency to clients who are below certain financial limits and who are entitled to representation. However, representation is provided in limited cases without a court appointment. Attorneys provide legal advice and representation in Child-in-Need-of-Aid (CINA) cases and assist parents or custodians in obtaining needed services for their families. Attorneys also represent mental health consumers with criminal cases being addressed in a therapeutic court. For more information on the services provided by the Alaska Public Defender Agency's Bethel Office, please contact them directly.
