Alternatives, Inc. provides residential programs and jail alternative to justice involved individuals returning to the Billings, Montana community. Since their inception in 1980, Alternatives, Inc. has worked to provide alternatives to incarceration for federal, state, and local people convicted of a crime. Alpha House is a men’s pre-release center that serves as an intermediate step between prison and the community. Participants live here under twenty-four hour a day supervision for approximately six months. Passages provides 74 beds in the Women's Pre-Release Center, 50 beds in the Assessment, Sanction and Revocation Center, and 50 additional beds in their Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program. The Beta Jail Alternatives program offers jail alternative services in Yellowstone, Stillwater, and Carbon Counties as a way to reduce jail overcrowding, teach responsibility, and keep indigent individuals out of jail.
