Brown County, OH Public Defender’s Office
Description
The Brown County Public Defender's Office is located in Columbus, Ohio. With one Deputy Director, this Public Defender's office provides legal representation to indigent clients who cannot pay for private counsel and who are at risk of losing their liberty if convicted. They represent clients in Brown County Common Pleas Court, the Common Pleas Court Juvenile Division, and the Municipal Court. Public Defender Offices do not handle all cases within a county. Some cases, due to conflicts or caseloads, will be handled by appointed counsel. In cases where a conflict exists, or the workload prevents accepting more cases, the court will appoint an attorney to represent the individual. Individuals who are determined to be eligible for court-appointed counsel do not have the right to choose who their attorney will be. However, they do have the right to have competent legal representation. If you have any questions about this organization, please use the contact information on the right-hand side of the page.
