Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities is the social ministry outreach of the Archdiocese of Washington. Motivated by the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and guided by Catholic social and moral teaching, Catholic Charities strengthen the lives of all in need by giving help that empowers and hope that lasts. Their Prison Outreach program provides mentoring to men and women returning to their communities after incarceration. The program aims to help individuals returning to the community from incarceration to reintegrate successfully by creating a support network centered around volunteers and mentors. Together they help returning citizens overcome big and small obstacles as they seek employment and find safe housing and other services needed to prevent recidivism. Unfortunately, most returning citizens experience great difficulty managing necessities for successful reintegration like finding work and housing, reunifying with family, and accessing health and substance abuse services that are crucial for recovery. Thus Catholic Charities Prison Outreach program helps them overcome their difficulties by allowing them to be productive and become a positive community member.
