The Centre County Public Defender's Office is located in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. Supported by one Public Defender, attorneys and staff, they defend adults and juveniles accused of committing crimes and represent parents who are threatened with loss of custody of their children because of neglect or abuse allegations. Some of the services provided by the office are investigating the client's version of the incident in question, explaining the legal process applicable to the client's situation, apprising the client of their legal options and providing an assessment as to the best course of action, speaking for the client at various court and administrative proceedings and coordinating client's utilization of various public and private social services. The Centre County Public Defender is mandated by state law and the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Pennsylvania to provide competent, effective and ethical legal representation to people unable to afford private counsel in cases like juvenile delinquency petitions, post confliction matters, probation and parole matters, mental health proceedings etc. where life or liberty issues are at stake.
