Chicago Innocence Project

Chicago Innocence Project

Description

Chicago Innocence Project is a community organization dedicated to protecting the rights of the accused in the eyes of the law. The organization describes itself as a watchdog over the justice system. Its mission is to continually investigate criminal justice issues and hold the system accountable for injustice. Chicago Innocence Project maintains an expansive and living database of information related to the rights of the accused and the incarcerated, as well as resources for community members facing housing insecurity, escaping domestic violence situations and otherwise facing barriers to independent living. This database acts as a community resource and easily searchable list of issues that residents often face with regard to systemic oppression, generational trauma and intergenerational incarceration. By educating the public, Chicago Innocence Project hopes to mobilize the community and inspire more effective self-advocacy.
