Civil Survival
Civil Survival is a Washington-based organization that advocates for people who have been directly impacted by the criminal justice system. Successful community reintegration and family reunification for people who are being released from incarceration is the primary focus for Civil Survival. By removing the many financial, political, and legal barriers to reentry their clients can better contribute to their homes and communities. A Reentry Legal Aid Program was designed to address the legal needs of formerly incarcerated individuals through mass assistance days, direct client representation, and the development and distribution of legal self-help resources. Additionally, they offer a leadership development program that works to develop formerly incarcerated leaders' advocacy and leadership skills. Civil Survival's community organizers work to organize people who have been directly impacted by the criminal justice system to build connections, gain knowledge, and increase political participation.
