Description
The Clarendon County Public Defender's Office is located in Manning, South Carolina and is a part of the Third Judicial Circuit. With one Circuit Public Defender and two Assistant Public Defenders, this office represents defendants in criminal court who are financially indigent. To qualify for an appointed attorney, you must first go through a screening process where you complete a financial affidavit. If you are eligible, an attorney will be appointed to represent you. The South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense (SCCID) oversees the working of the Clarendon County Office. The SCCID is responsible for ensuring that all individuals are provided with indigent defense services in South Carolina and provide the highest quality of representation to their clients. In addition, the SCCID sets and enforces standards to ensure consistency across South Carolina and maintain accountability of those persons entrusted with the life and liberty of poor persons charged with crimes.
