Description
The Cuyahoga County Public Defender's Office is located in Cleveland, Ohio. With over 130 employees consisting of attorneys, social workers, investigators, paralegals, law clerks, and other support staff. This Public Defender's office's mission is to provide consistently excellent representation and vigorous advocacy to protect the rights of low-income people in criminal, juvenile delinquency, and parental rights matters. This office is composed of four divisions which are the Felony Division, Juvenile Division, Municipal Division, and Appellate and Post-Conviction Division. The Felony Divison provides representation to indigent clients in felony cases, this division consists of counsel with extensive felony trial experience. The Juvenile Division provides representation in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court for children accused of crimes and for parents facing abuse, neglect, or dependency allegations from Children and Family Services. The Appellate and Post-Conviction Division handles direct appeals, expungements, and other post-conviction matters on behalf of indigent clients. Lastly, the Municipal Division provides representation in Cleveland Municipal Court for all persons who are unable to afford an attorney and are charged with a misdemeanor.
