Deschutes Defenders

Description

The Deschutes Defender's Office is located in Bend, Oregon. Their staff comprises over 25 attorneys, investigators, legal assistants, front office staff, and administration focused on helping you achieve your legal goals—the office contracts with the state of Oregon for indigent defense services. Their attorneys also advocate for clients involved in alternative court programs, including family drug court and mental health court. Deschutes Defenders is a public defense nonprofit that provides unwavering advocacy for each client. They champion the preservation of families and empower the mentally ill to make their own choices. In addition, they safeguard against those who trample on our constitutional rights by partnering with community stakeholders to end the kneejerk punishment response instead of empowering our marginalized clients. The right to counsel guaranteed to every American citizen accused of a crime is embodied in the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution and applicable to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment. An integral component of the right to counsel is the right to court-appointed counsel for those unable to hire an attorney. Kindly contact the Deschutes Defenders Public Defender Office if you require further information.
