Description
The Dougherty County Public Defender's Office located in Albany is responsible for an Indigent Defense Program established by the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council for those unable to afford legal representation in criminal cases. With one Circuit Public Defender and other Staff Attorneys, their roles and responsibilities are to provide legal representation, consultation, and advice to clients, represent clients through criminal investigative proceedings, create a defense plan, conduct investigative legal research, and interview the necessary clients and witnesses, work closely with clients, discuss relevant information and strategies. The goal of the Public Defender is to provide a fully competent, effective, and ethical defense to each client whose cause has been entrusted to the office for representation.
